The kids had a fire drill in school yesterday. They were all excited about it. Can't stop talking about it the moment they were back. Both were quick to tell me once the fire alarm goes off they have to leave everything behind and leave the classroom quickly. They kept emphasizing the fact that no one is allowed to take anything with them, no matter how important or precious it might be. Ranen went as far to tell me that the same applies for us should there be a fire drill for our block. (“,)
On and on they went. It was really fun and amusing (for me) to witness their excitement and sense of importance in this matter.
After a while the excitement dies down. Ranen was quiet for a little while and then he opened his mouth and out flowed words of divine wisdom.
R: Mom, it's the same when we go to heaven right? We can't take anyTHING with us, right?
Z: (utterly speechless but thank God found my tongue after a while) Ranen, you are absolutely right. When it's time to go to heaven we can’t bring anyTHING with us.
R: and we don't have to try to get to heaven right? we don't have to fly or anything like that huh?
Z: yes, you are right. Daddy God will bring us to heaven. We don’t have to try to get there :-D
I won’t be forgetting this conversation anytime soon. A timely and much needed reminder (for me). Once again, GOD in His great wisdom and grace choose to speak straight to my heart thru a kid. Instantly everything snapped into perspective. No need to get all cranky and crazy when I can’t have what I want when I want it/them the way I want it/them. All the energy, emotion and time wasted fussing can be channeled into better use. .... because finally, when the trumpets sound and the King of Glory stands ready to receive us - we are gonna leave everything behind. Be it the $10000 bag or $2000 shoes or those photos of the kids when they were merely fetus in mommy tummy. Enjoy them now if we have them. So that when the time comes for us to leave them behind - we have no issue. :-) If we do not have – it is fine. They enhance our lives but they are not LIFE.
I am looking forward to heaven. No baggage allowed. In every sense of the word.
:-D
